Matt Hiers, Zach Oxendine and Tyler Williams led the Rock Hill school board races. York County voters backed Annie Andrews for Senate and Wes Climer for House.

Winthrop Lake to be lowered for $674,000 dam rebuild
Winthrop will lower Winthrop Lake from late October to rebuild its 73-year-old dam. The road on top narrows to about one lane until early 2027, and the fish are being moved.

Oakdale Elementary is the only Rock Hill Schools campus rated Excellent. Eight schools moved up a rating, five slipped and none is Below Average. Every score.

York County deputies shoot armed man after chase
Two deputies fired after a man wanted by Clover police pointed a gun at one of them on Lloyd White Road Wednesday, the sheriff's office said. SLED is investigating.

Winthrop enrollment tops 5,500, first time since 2020
Winthrop has 5,500 students this fall, up 212 from last year and 806 since 2023. Undergraduates rose 4.6% to 4,485, the university said Friday.
