York County wants ideas for trails outside city limits. Drop in 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Heckle Complex in Rock Hill, or take the 12-minute survey.
York County is asking residents what trails they want built outside its cities and towns. Its Rock Hill-area open house on the new countywide Trail Master Plan is Tuesday.
The county’s Planning Department is running the plan, according to a county news release. It covers the unincorporated parts of York County, so it does not plan trails inside Rock Hill’s city limits.
The Rock Hill open house
- When: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20
- Where: Large Conference Room, County Heckle Complex, 1070 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill
- Format: drop in at any time. There is no formal presentation.
Project team members will be there throughout to answer questions and take comments, according to the plan’s project website.
A second open house runs 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2955 S.C. 160, in Fort Mill, about seven miles northeast. The first was held Thursday at the County Council chambers in York, according to the county’s open house flyer (PDF).
What the plan will do
The county describes the plan as a long-term vision for a connected network of safe and accessible trails. They would be for people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike and exercise, and to reach parks, neighborhoods and other destinations.
According to the project website, the planning work will look at:
- existing trails and facilities
- earlier plans
- key destinations
- environmental issues
- places where new trail connections could go
Once finished, the plan will guide the county’s future spending on trails and support its grant applications, the website says.
What it means for you
- Go Tuesday if you live in unincorporated York County around Rock Hill, or use trails there. It is the last of the three open houses.
- Take the survey if you cannot attend. The online survey takes under 12 minutes, the county says. The county has not published a closing date.
- What comes next: the project team will compile the comments from all three open houses to guide the next phases of the plan, according to the project website.
- Trails inside the city are run by the City of Rock Hill. Our guide to walking and biking trails in Rock Hill lists them, and our parks and trails page covers the city’s parks.
